JI Course 109: THE SPIRITUAL DEVELOPMENTAL WORK UNIQUE TO THE MIDDLE YEARS ... AGES 45-65

THE TEN SPIRITUAL DEVELOPMENTAL TASKS OF MIDLIFE:
STRENGTHENING SPIRITUALITY IN THE DECADES OF THE 40S AND 50S AND EARLY 60S

MIDLIFE SPIRITUALITY: This course breaks new ground in that it specifically identifies the spiritual “work” that is necessary in the midlife years (ages 40-65). The course not only identifies these ten necessary spiritual tasks of midlife but also gives you the means to help midlife people of faith assess how well they are currently addressing these ten.

It's in midlife when the story of our true spiritual development begins in earnest; it is in midlife when we set down the foundation of the rest of our life. What came before our 40s was prelude; a preparation for our fantastic journey of interior growth and psycho-spiritual alignment of midlife. This is a process that takes the rest of life and which advances spiritual authenticity; our quest for God at midlife.

THE TEN SPIRITUAL DEVELOPMENTAL TASKS OF MIDLIFE

Research has identified ten specific tasks that need to be addressed in the spiritual life arena of midlife. These ten tasks are identified by and measured on the "Spiritual Tasks Profile - Midlife", the STPM. The STPM, has been expressly designed to help people of faith realize their maximum spiritual potential in their 40s, 50s, and the first half of their 60s. The STPM provides a personal inventory of the level of growth on the spiritual developmental tasks of midlife. Even though these ten tasks seem to be universal, EACH PERSON ADDRESSES THESE TEN TASKS OF MIDLIFE IN THEIR OWN WAY. Students personally complete their own STPM and are expected to give the STPM to another person as part of the requirements of the course.
