JI Course 110: THE SPIRITUAL DEVELOPMENTAL WORK" UNIQUE TO THE ILLUMINATION YEARS ... BEYOND AGE 65."

Live THE TEN SPIRITUAL DEVELOPMENTAL TASKS OF THE ILLUMINATION YEARS:
AGING GRACEFULLY AND STRENGTHENING SPIRITUALITY IN THE DECADES BEYOND MIDLIFE
(AGES 65 AND MORE SENIOR).

This course specifically and concretely outlines the spiritual “work” of the later years. You’ll learn how to help senior adults of faith assess how they are addressing their ongoing spiritual development so they can age gracefully. The course meshes the best concepts of developmental psychology with powerful principles of lifespan spiritual growth.

What are the illumination years? We are all living longer, and we have a much broader range of life possibilities than ever before. These two trends have converged to create an entirely new life stage that has been called the "Illumination Stage" or aging gracefully stage of life. The Illumination stage begins in the mid 60s and extends well into the 70s, 80s and beyond. The premier event of the Illumination stage of life is a gradual shift of personal emphasis away from our functional ministerial/work role to a more spiritually expressive role of new life meaning, and quickened spiritual intensity.

Spiritual development in the Illumination stage propels us to new and exciting heights of heart, mind, and soul. The road is not an easy one. Indeed, the Illumination life stage can be the most difficult and yet the most rewarding stage. Physical diminishments and shifts in active involvement in the "busyness" of the world can promote spiritual growth, or it can overwhelm us. Spiritual growth comes from converting these potential threats into personal challenges that stir our spirit and propel us toward God. The course answers the question: What does it mean to be aging gracefully?

Research has identified ten specific tasks that need to be addressed in the spiritual life arena of the Illumination stage of life. These ten tasks are identified by and measured on the "Spiritual Tasks Profile - Renewal", the STPR. The STPR has been expressly designed to help people of faith realize their full potential on their spiritual plane in the last half of their 60s, and through their 70s, 80s, and beyond. The STPR provides a personal inventory of your level of spiritual developmental in the renewal years.  Even though these ten tasks seem to be universal, EACH PERSON ADDRESSES THESE TEN IN THEIR OWN WAY.
